News in Your Inbox

If we are to live a
low carbon lifestyle our future will involve less trips to the
shops and far more of our media will be delivered electronically
In the spirit of electronic media we devote an entire page of
our web site to the phenomena of the Electronic Newsletter.
Electronic Newsletters are delivered by E:Mail. You go to the
web site of your choice and submit your E:Mail address. Then, on
regular occasions they send you an E:Mail loaded with lots of
useful and interesting things. Well, that is the idea.
Of course you might
disagree. Maybe our agrarian future will have no place for
computers and the internet. Grim, but maybe.... However, cheer
up, we aren't there yet. So let us plug-in, tune-in and wise up
to the wonderful world of electronic news. Click 'receive' and
read on.... |

The Ecologist
|
|
The Electronic
Newsletter from the Ecologist Magazine. The physical
magazine is monthly yet the E-Letter is weekly. It mainly
advertises what is in the magazine to persuade you to go and
buy it. Well, you can't blame them for trying. However it
also has lots of useful links to stuff on their own website
that changes more regularly. There are also a tiresome
couple of blogs by people calling themselves "HedgeWizard"
and "Kitchen Witch". Too much Dungeons and Dragons as
teenagers we guess.

4proEcotips
|
|
The Monthly
Electronic Newsletter from Pro-ECO Tips. These cover topics
connected to sustainable building practices. The typical
Newsletter has articles on Ground Source Heat Pumps, Timber
Windows and Under-Floor Heating. As the name suggests it is
not really aimed at the amateur but it remains a useful
update for anyone with an interest in making their home
carbon neutral.

CO2 Balance
|
|
Think of "The
CarbonNeutral Company" for the little guy. Rather than
"CarbonNeutral" they sell "CarbonZero". Welcome to the
co2balance Electronic Newsletter. In their words it
"provides readers with information on what's hot and what's
cold in the world of climate change". CO2Balance are, of
course, an offsetting company. To us Carbon Cutters that
makes them the Good Guys who plant trees for our children.
To the 'deep green' this makes them evil beyond belief as
they print licenses to rape the planet. Take your pick.
However the Newsletter is entertaining and informative. We
recommend it thoroughly. They know the Business of Climate
Change and Offsetting. We trust them.

I Count
|
|
The ICount
Newsletter is the same as "Stop Climate Chaos". They are a
single-issue Campaign Group who send very irregular
Electronic Newsletters. We have only seen 4 between May 2007
and October 2007. From what little we have seen these
Newsletters are full of Campaign-related News such as their
latest march on London. However their is also other Climate
Change-related news such as fascinating articles on the
effects of melting Mammoth Dung. Fun.

The Carbon Neutral Company
|
|
The Carbon Neutral
Company started out as "Future Forests" a few years ago and
pioneered Carbon Offsetting schemes for us mortals. Since that
time they rebranded and went up market as their client base
started to boast some pretty BIG Companies. Suddenly they were
terribly 'Corporate' and they started to wear pin-stripe suits
with braces. Suddenly the little guy wasn't that important
anymore. However, they have the Newsletter. It comes out
irregularly but is very frequent. Their news concerns mostly
information for Business's into 'carbon-neutrality'. This is
slick and professional. It is occasionally interesting but often
useless for Joe Public.

Carbon Coach
|
|
The Electronic
Newsletter of the self-styled "Carbon Coach" - Dave Hampton. In
fact Dave is a close neighbour of ours in the South of England.
This has not stopped us from being just a little critical of his
approach. He does good work but we have accused him of being
slightly more style than substance. However, his heart is in the
right place so we signed up to his Newsletter. However, he
hasn't sent one to us since June 2007 so maybe we have offended
him so much we are off his Christmas Card List? Come back Dave -
all is forgiven! His Newsletters are well written and
entertaining. He is attempting to make low-carbon inroads into
middle-class Britain. He goes on demo's, attends talks, writes
letters to the paper, goes on the Radio, etc, etc. A real
low-carbon foot-soldier.

Friends of the Earth
|
|
The Electronic
Newsletter from Friends of the Earth. If you are familiar with
FOE then you pretty much know what to expect. FOE are a
campaigning and lobbying group. Their newsletter is irregular
but frequent. Each one is closely linked to a specific campaign
that they are running at that moment. They are trying to drum up
support.
|
Stop Urban 4x4
|
|
The "Alliance
Against Urban 4x4s" eNewsletter comes out very rarely. So far in
2007 we have only seen one - in April! However, it is well
written with lots of interesting content concerning this
single-issue campaign. They talk about anti-4x4 regulations,
items for sale, international news, new parking restrictions in
London and so on. All good stuff. A little more often wouldn't
hurt.
